If you’re an executor of someone’s estate you may be seeking legal representation. We know there can be some confusion around fees and costs, so we have outlined the probate services we include and how much they cost.

Probate

What probate services can I be charged for?

While each case is unique, and some are more complex than others, there are certain services that are required most of the time. We will advise you on how much support you’ll need during an initial consultation. The usual services include:

  • Reviewing papers and providing advice

  • Preparing legal documents and obtaining a Grant of Probate (if required)

  • Carrying out administration of the estate, including communication and distribution of assets

How much does it cost?

There is usually not a fixed cost for probate, as each estate differs from one to the next. Call us to speak with a specialist for a more accurate estimate.

Generally, our fees for the administration range between 2.5% to 4% of the gross value of the estate.

For a straightforward grant application, we charge £1,200 plus disbursements. This can change based on the complexity of the estate. We will agree a cost with you in advance.

Our hourly rates start at £132 and can go up to £480, again depending on the estate, as well as the experience of the solicitor working on your case.

Can the fees be paid from the estate?

If you are the administrator or executor of a loved one, you can opt for legal fees to be paid from the estate.
