Trading Standards

Trading standards are in place to protect the consumer, and officers are employed to ensure the law is applied and investigations are carried out where needed.

Trading Standards

Trading standards law is broad, and includes:

  • Counterfeit goods

  • Infringement of trademark

  • Unfair practices

  • Underage selling of restricted items

  • Animal welfare

  • Health and safety

  • Fraud

  • Contracts of sale

If you’re under investigation:

This can have a serious impact on your company and the people involved. Trading standards officers have significant powers, and can seize company goods as well as initiate police co-operation, which can mean suspects being interviewed under caution at a police station.

If you have been accused of an offence, it’s recommended to seek legal advice and representation, even if you’re certain about your innocence.
