Under the present legislation, EU/EFTA citizens can bring family members to the UK. They will have the same rights to work and study.

Who can you bring?

  • Spouses or partners

  • Children under 21

  • Dependent children of any age

  • Dependent children of your partner

  • Dependent parents

  • Dependent parents of your partner

  • Dependent grandparents

  • Dependent grandparents of your partner

  • Dependent siblings, cousins, aunts, uncles, nieces, or nephews

Family members of non-EU/EFTA citizenship must apply for a Family Permit in order to join you in the UK. This is valid for six months, though it can be extended. The family member must be in the UK already, or travelling to the UK with you.

Croatian citizens

Under current law, there is different immigration rules for Croatian citizens coming to the UK. You must apply for a registration certificate in order to seek employment, and you will need to be able to support yourself financially or be studying in order to stay for longer than three months,
